Brief Assignment One

 Objective: To identify potential weaknesses in grammar and mechanics for further study this semester

Purpose: Often, students realize that they have trouble with grammar and mechanics, but find it hard to learn to avoid those errors because they aren’t even sure what they are. This assignment first requires you to take the pre-semester diagnostic at Prep-U, located in the Bedford Student Center: http://bcs.bedfordstmartins.com/ttu/. After completing the diagnostic, you need to write a brief reflection about your score and submit that reflection to Raider Writer.

Description: To receive full credit for this assignment, you must take the pre-semester diagnostic, and then answer the following in a reflective paragraph:

• Where and when did you take ENGL1301? What was your grade in the course? If you took 1301 at Tech, what were your pre- and post-diagnostic scores?
• What was your score on the pre-diagnostic for 1302?
• Was it higher or lower than you expected?
• After reviewing your results, and based on your previous writing experiences, including your experience in ENGL 1301, if applicable, which particular grammar elements would you like to focus on this semester?
•  What other issues with your writing do you believe you still need to focus on at this point?

Each question is worth 20 points, so be sure to answer all of them completely.
